arborescence

I am honoured to have work in a touring exhibition of exceptional beauty and emotional depth called Life in your hands: Art from Solastalgia. It opened last weekend at Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery and will go on to tour to venues in NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria over the next two years.

The exhibition curator Robyn Daw invited a group of artists across disciplines to respond to the notion of solastalgia, (a term coined by Australian philosopher Glenn Albrecht to describe the homesickness you feel whilst still at home,) in partnership with specific communities and issues. I worked in Canberra and my piece Arborescence is a reflection on the aftermath of the 2003 Canberra bushfires and continued healing process. Following are some images taken in Canberra, working sketches and the finished piece.
